Savings from public procurement centralization in the healthcare system

We show that the introduction of procurement centralization within regional healthcare systems in Italy reduced per capita health expenditure approximatelyt by 2–8%, without affecting level health-related public services. Our results also indicate effect is persistent after six years, and not influenced coexistence other organizational models, such as amalgamation hybrid systems. Finally, we document reduction effective only areas characterized poor quality institutions, indicating might be an tool to reduce corruption-related inefficiencies sector.
